Economic Instability and Organizational Resilience

On April 1, 2009 from 3:00 PM-5:30 PM the William Alanson White Organization Program is pleased to announce a colloquium on "Economic Instability and Organizational Resilience".  

These unprecedented times have led to numerous stresses and crises within organizations. Come join a panel discussion on the impact economic instability is having on the people within organizations.  

We will be examining the psychology of how we got into this crisis and how we might get out of this crisis.

Our panelists will include:

Steve Freeman is an award winning author and scholar, with prominent work on a range of political and organizational topics, including employee ownership, election fraud and resilience. He teaches executive-level courses on organizational resilience and innovation in the Organizational Dynamics Program at the University of Pennsylvania, speaking on the 2008 Global Financial Crisis

Larry Hirschhorn is a principal at CFAR, a management consulting firm specializing in strategy and organizational development and an adjunct faculty member of the William Alanson White Institute's Organization Program. He uses his expertise in economics, mathematics and psychology to help leaders balance quantitative and qualitative data in the decision-making process. Larry tackles complex situations in a grounded and practical way, and has written extensively on the post-industrial organization.

Marc Maltz is a partner with TRIAD Consulting Group LLC and a principal in the Boswell Group LLC, both organizational consulting firms, and past Co-director and a faculty member of the William Alanson White Institute's Organization Program. Marc consults to and writes about building more resilient organizations.

Jodi Rabinowitz is Head of Organizational Learning, BNP Paribas-U.S., a European leader in banking and financial services, with a significant and growing presence in the United States and leading positions in Asia. The Group has one of the largest international banking networks, a presence in over 85 countries with 173,200 employees including: 132,700 in Europe, 15,200 in North America and 9,500 in Asia. “1st largest French company and 5th in the banking industry worldwide, 1st bank in the Euro Zone” (‘Global 2000 Forbes’ 2008).

Jonathan Shapiro is the Chief Executive Officer of MediaWhiz, a leader in online advertising with over 3,000 advertisers and an advertising network of over 30,000 top online publishers. Before joining MediaWhiz, Jonathan was President of Lillian Vernon Corp., Chief Strategy Officer of DoubleClick, developed United Media's original web businesses (Dilbert.com, Snoopy.com and Comics.com), and was a senior consultant with McKinsey & Co.

Alexander Stein is a clinical and business psychoanalyst, a principal in the Boswell Group LLC and a monthly columnist/special feature writer for FORTUNE Small Business where he writes on the emotional and psychological dimensions of business and entrepreneurship. Alexander is a supervising and training analyst, NPAP.

This colloquium is a joint effort between the University of Pennsylvania, CFAR and the William Alanson White Organization Program.
